I didn’t grow up knowing much about baking. In fact, my earliest memory of it was watching my mother attempt to bake a cake from a box mix—and let’s just say, it didn’t turn out as planned. I don’t remember exactly what went wrong, but I do remember the disappointment on her face and the understanding that baking wasn’t something we did often in our home.

As I got older, I started to pay more attention to recipes, learning that following directions step by step could lead to something wonderful. At first, I stuck to simple things, testing my skills with store-bought cookie dough or brownies. But about four years ago, something changed. I started baking more and more, experimenting with different recipes, and discovering the joy that comes with creating something from scratch.

Now, baking has become a big part of my life—something I truly love. Recently, I ventured out again and baked bagels for the first time. What started as a curiosity turned into a new staple in our home. There’s something incredibly rewarding about shaping the dough, boiling it, and watching it transform into golden, chewy bagels fresh from the oven.

Baking isn’t just about making delicious treats; it’s about the process—the kneading, the mixing, the anticipation as the oven does its magic. It has become a creative outlet, a way to express love, and a reminder that even if you don’t start off knowing how to do something, with patience and practice, you can turn it into something truly special. This was my first time trying, and I’m sure I made mistakes along the way, but I enjoyed the experience. I’ve included the recipe I followed at the bottom in case you’d like to try it too!

Recipe Idea: Try baking Homemade Bagels as a perfect way to show love. These chewy, golden delights are a household favorite, fun to make, and can be customized with different toppings like sesame seeds, everything seasoning, or even cinnamon sugar.
